A Piece of Glass History

Personal Project—Summer, 2018

Description—

My grandfather, Dale Richard Glass, was one of the many soldiers shipped off to Japan during World War II, where his job eventually became to  educate the Japanese about the end of the war. After his passing, my family found war memorabilia including photos and letters written during WWII. My mother longed to compile all this history into a book but never found time to do so. In the summer before my senior year, I took on this project and surprised many members of my extended family with printed copies.

Problem—

Unorganized content including letters, stories, photos, war memorabilia, and books.

Solution—

Problem solving how to organize items available by placing them in layouts to tell the story of Dale Glass’ WWII experience while also integrating the lives and experiences of other contemporary family members.

Inspiration—

Family gatherings when my grandfather would tell stories of his World War II experience.
